Thee Kevin
I suppose it’s Music Video Day at TheeKevin.tumblr.com. Here’s another chestnut from way back when. This song was the lead-off track from Hole’s long awaited follow-up to their much acclaimed “Live Through This” album. “Celebrity Skin” took 4 years to get together. It certainly shows. Grunge had become laughable by this point. Radio was embracing the likes of Limp Bizkit, Spice Girls, and overromanticized modern rock such as Semisonic, Verve Pipe, Marcy Playground, etc.
However, Courtney Love couldn’t stand to be a grunge Rip Van Winkle. Hole glammed up. They moved towards “power-pop.” They wore leather and/or plastic. The baby doll dresses were gone, but the violent, smeared lipstick, coked out, junkie whore attitude remained. Listen up for the Merchant of Venice reference in the song.
This is the sequel to my last post. Consider this your Empire Strikes Back. This has to do with Yo La Tengo. This is also an example of their unpretentiousness.
When I was in high school, I listened to Yo La Tengo. When I was halfway done with college, I got another Yo La Tengo album and liked it. In my late 20s, I go to watch Yo La Tengo play and without thinking I’ll buy their latest release. I don’t question bad decisions on their part. I don’t even think they’re capable of a false moment. They mean well and they’re always honest with me. That’s why we’re still friends.

This is a superhero named Zeitgeist. His vomit was lethal, which was his “superpower.” He was featured in the comic book called X-Force after some weirdo indie-Brit Peter Milligan revamped it for the better. In this comic book, superheroes were treated like football stars, made out to be celebrities, and had licensing deals. None of them were particularly pure of heart. They often died; por ejemplo, Zeitgeist only lasted 2 issues.

As a side-note, X-Force (became X-Statix) had a storyline that featured Princess Diana as a mutant superhero ressurected from the dead. It was titled “Di Another Day.”

X-Force/X-Statix ended its’ run in 2004.

Sometimes trailers are better than the film. Appetizers are better than entrees. Trees are better than the forest. Watch!
Fave art lately.
